Class definitions. Class I — equipment relying on a protective earth (kettles, microwaves, washing machines). Earth continuity ≤ 0.1Ω plus the resistance of the supply lead. Class II — double-insulated equipment (most lamps, hairdryers, small chargers) — identified by the double-square symbol; insulation resistance must be ≥ 2.0 MΩ. Class III — SELV equipment — visual inspection only.

Scope & limitations. This certificate records the in-service inspection and testing of the portable electrical appliances listed within the dwelling on the date stated, in line with the IET Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (5th Edition, 2020) and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. Testing is non-intrusive (formal visual inspection, earth continuity and insulation resistance) and does not include the fixed electrical installation, which is the subject of a separate Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). Equipment introduced into the property after the date of this test is not covered. The duty of care for the safe use and prompt reporting of faults rests with the occupier.
